Adaptation in an Active Services Network

چکیده

Active services networks will give to users the flexibility to have access to custom services created by them or third party service providers. The Internet will become much more attractive but also services will turn out to be more versatile. The complexity of such a system is expected to be very high making traditional network management strategies unable to cope with the organization of the whole network. New adaptive techniques must be introduced in order to handle the rapid and many small changes in the network state. Genetic algorithms and biological inspired models seem to make the network adaptive to unpredictable changes. Some simulation results prove that those models are promising for the management of the future networks.

Improving the flexibility of active grids through web services

Active Grids are a form of grid infrastructure where the grid network is active and programmable. These grids directly support applications with value added services such as data migration, compression, adaptation and monitoring. Services such as these are particularly important for eResearch applications which by their very nature are performance critical and data intensive. We propose an arch...

Design, Implementation, and Evaluation of Active Video-Quality Adjustment Method for Heterogeneous Video Multicast

By introducing video-quality adaptation mechanisms into intermediate network equipments using active network technologies, we can provide users with video distribution services taking into account client-to-client heterogeneity in terms of available bandwidth, performance of client systems, and user’s preferences about video quality. In this paper, we designed and implemented an active video-qu...

COMAN: A Multiple-Language Active Network Architecture Enabled via Middleware

In conventional data communication networks, the basic network components are passive, where routing decisions are made solely on the basis of packet header information. In contrast, active networks allow added computation within the network through user-defined routing and processing instructions, providing the on-demand installation of powerful software-based network services. As an adaptatio...

A Scalable Middleware–Based Active Network Architecture for Next Generation Communications

In conventional data communication networks, the basic network components such as workstations and routers are passive, in which routing decisions are made solely on the basis of the packet header information. In contrast, active networks allow the specification of complex processing instructions at all participating intermediate network routers, providing the on–demand installation of complex ...

Automated Planning for Active Networks A dissertation prospectus

Alexey Rudenko April, 2000 Abstract Active Networks (ANs) are a relatively new technology for computer systems that allows dynamic deployment of services. The Internet is an obvious area that would benefit from fast deployment of protocols that would appropriately modify or reroute user data streams. ANs are meant to use fast-growing computational resources of modern computer systems as a relie...
